What questions should I ask a college admissions counselor? I am meeting with a college admissions counselor tomorrow. I graduated high school about 5 years ago and am just now deciding to go back to school. I will be moving out of state for school to get away from all of my distractions. I've already decided this is the school I want to attend. What questions should I ask the admissions counselor? I don't want to go into this meeting looking like an idiot because I don't have any questions. Any thoughts?
What to wear to fashion college admissions meeting? I am applying to attend a college with a very select fashion program, and the admissions advisor asked me to come in to go over what I need in my portfolio and fill out and application form. I want to treat it like an interview and dress nicely but since its a fashions program I was thinking that I should show that I understand the fashion industry. Any suggestions on what to wear that has a happy medium?
How should I start a letter to a college admissions director? I've been put on the wait list and I'm writing to them expressing my desire to go to the college, how it's my first choice, etc. but how should I address the admissions director? What traits set you apart in the eyes of a college admissions committee? I understand that there is a large group of people with high GPAs, high SAT scores, and many volunteer hours and extracurricular activities. What sets a certain individual from this group apart from the others? How do college admissions committees decide between people from this pool of applicants?
Do you think the college admissions process is unfair? Do you think that students from disadvantaged households have a tough time with the college admissions process? It seems like all of the elite schools only take well-to-do students. But those schools SUCK. I came from a disadvantaged family and I ended up in a terrible penn state branch campus.
how important are community services to college admissions? I'm looking for a most selective college. I know that community service plays a big part in college admissions. I was wondering how much of that I should have in order to have colleges think highly of me. Right now, I don't really have time for community services because of a lot of challenging classes and some extra curiculars. But I'm thinking about getting a summer job or something and donate blood at the blood drive when I get the chance.

Do college board of admissions actually look at your AP exam scores as a factor? Or do college admissions care more about the letter grade you received in the AP class over your AP exam score. I know my school's AP classes are much harder than some other states and was wondering if I'm at a disadvantage by getting lower grades than other kids from other states. What would be better, getting a higher grade in the AP class and a lower grade on the actual AP exam, or a low grade in the actual AP class but a high grade on the AP Exam itself.

Does being a Junior Firefighter increase your chances of College Admissions? The two colleges that I am most concerned with getting into are Cornell University and the Cooper Union. I have a modest 3.4 unweighted GPA and a combined SAT score of 1910 w/ a 680 in math, a 650 in Reading and a 580 in Writing. Would being a Junior Firefighter make me stand out to admissions personnel?
Do foster children have a leg up in the way of college admissions? I am wondering if I should go through with the legal process of becoming someone's foster child in order to benefit my admissions process to top colleges (Amherst, Dartmouth, Brown, UC Berkeley). I am in a situation where it is feasible- don't live with any relatives, but I want to go with the decision that's best for admissions. 17 at the time of college admissions, so it would be a definite valid factor in the entire process.
Is it okay to use contractions in a letter to a college admissions officer? I know usually you should never use contractions in any formal writing, but I think it would seem a little less robotic and more humanizing if I let up a little bit on that. Like for example, here's my first sentence: "I'd like to start off by thanking you for considering me as a potential candidate for admission for the upcoming fall semester." Will it be acceptable to use a few contractions here and there? Am I worrying way too much about this? If I am it's just because I really, really want to get into this college. Being on the wait list is killing me!
Tell me what you think of my college admissions essay? I really don't want to let my friends read my college admissions essay since we're applying to schools in Texas which all ask the same exact essay questions, and I don't want them to get ideas from me. So is there anyone out there who is pretty good at English and can help me fix grammatical errors, tell me what they think of the flow of my paper, what to add/change (if anything), etc? Please leave your email address, thank you! Please leave your email address and i'll email you it, thanks
Do college admissions officers monitor this site? I pasted my introduction to a college essay and ask for criticism on it. Two people said this was unethical and that they have heard that admissions officers monitor this site, and if they were to see that question, they would automatically rule me out for admission because I asked for help. Is this true?
College Admissions Resume: Do I need to emphasize my education or my career? I'm 22, and am applying for transfer as a Junior into a new University. I'm currently attending community college for now. The application asks for a resume. My current resume is formatted for a potential employer, but...should I change it to emphasize my education instead? Resumes confuse the heck out of me. I've never done an admissions resume before!

How long should a college admissions essay be? I'm entering my senior year of high school, and I'm trying to figure out how long my admissions essay(s) should be. Is there a limit? Quinnipiac University says they have a 250 word limit, but that seems VERY short. Anyone with experience?
What are the important dates in the college admissions process? 1) What is usually the deadline for early applications? 2) What is usually the deadline for regular applications? 3) When do you find out if you were accepted/rejected/deferred for early action? 4) When do you get your acceptance/rejection letter in the spring? I understand it is slightly different for different colleges, but I am looking for the average timing. For instance, do you find out about early action before or after Thanksgiving? What impact is my D in AP Calculus going to have on college admissions? I'm a senior and my unweighted GPA is around 3.6. I plan on majoring in film and have applied to USC, NYU, and Boston University. USC has sent me a letter stating that they would like to see my senior grades before accepting me. I did get that D and I'm worried. I'm taking a Calculus community college class right now and I was wondering what my chances are for these universities. Be as honest as possible. If you would like more information about me, please contact me.
Will getting a F in community college affect regular college admissions? During my junior year summer, I took a course at a community college to try and boost my resume for college. I put that I took the course on my college apps, but turns out I got an F in the class. I applied to top schools such as Columbia and MIT. Will this F affect my chances? My regular high school grades are good, A's and a few B's and a GPA of 3.8. If I try to get the grade taken off the record will it also have an affect? I am really worried, please help.
How do Suspensions in High School affect College Admissions? I was suspended twice in the past two years, once for a really ridiculous reason involving someone interpreting a joke the wrong way, and the other time was due to myself using "innapropriate" language. How is this going to affect my chances of getting into a good college?
How do I let my personality show through on college admissions? I am very outgoing, funny, enjoyable to be around, and I love life. I want to attend Knox college, as they encourage individuals, but am not sure how to let my personality shine through. An application just seems so boring, factual, and impersonal. How do I get that across?
Which science course would benefit me the most for college admissions and prep for college? I'm a little confused. Freshman year I took Earth and Space, then Honors Biology soph year, followed by Honors Chemistry Jr year. My main concern is getting into the best possible college (I take mainly honors courses and one AP) and I excelled at chemistry the most of all three I have taken. I was thinking of AP Chemistry and earning college credits early but my father thinks it may be beneficial to take honors (not AP) physics next year instead, because I will need to know some physics for college. I still need to take 2 SAT II's also. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Does volunteer work really matter in college admissions? I'm a volunteer in a shelter for battered women and children and I'm wondering if it'll actually help my application. I also volunteer at an elementary school as a teacher's aide. Note: Just because it matters to me, even though I don't know you all, I do it because I want to, not for college boosts- I think that's lame. Still, I'm wondering though.
